They've left out huge moments, and pretty much all of the universe building and character development. I have zero faith in this show being even remotely similar to the books anymore. Nothing in the second episode was even close to what happened in the books.
They changed, screwed with, added things, removed things, and just overall fucked with everything in the show. The changes and things they left out weren't that big of a deal, and I really liked how Quentin was portrayed.īut as soon as he started taking the written entrance exam, it was all fucked. The first 20 minutes of the pilot was great. I don't want to be the person coming in here and poopooing on everything, but I need to vent somewhere.
It's not the best show on tv right now, but it's good enough that I'll continue to give it a chance.Īlright, I really hate this. The first two episodes of The Magicians established a world, fleshed out the primary players, and introduced the mysterious antagonist in a way that left me wanting to find out more. It just jumped into the story right from the get go and got me interested. What I really enjoyed about the pilot was what seemed a lot of you don't like. I do find the romance/personal drama acting to be somewhat hackneyed, but that's kind of expected from any SyFy show.
The other supporting characters do well playing off each other. The MC is sympathetic, Julia is interesting, and Alice does great as a foil. But as far as a SyFy production goes, this is probably one of the better shows on the network right now. I was kind of put off with the whole Narnia/Harry Potter similarities. Usually, I'm not a big fan of the young adult fantasy genre. I'd like to give a perspective from someone who's never read the books before.
